Somatics
Our bodies are smart. They contain and adapt around pain, they express conflict, they can become our compass toward healing.
For some of us though, they’re the last place we’ve wanted to be.
Our disconnection leaves us running on a fraction of the vibrancy what we were meant to. Maybe the worst part is being left with only our thoughts to hang on to.
In therapy, we work with interoception, or the feeling of what’s happening, sensation-wise, inside. Why? Because then we can figure out what to do with it. We become much more capable of relieving our own anxiety, of feeling what’s true, of shifting away from outworn thinking habits, of remaining present and not dissociating, of finding our own lucid knowing. Also of loving and joy, even if we’ve been too depressed to even imagine those experiences.
It’s also a wonderful thing to know your own nervous system, the internal tracks that run us from content to collapsed to panicked to all the places in between. Once you can feel your body, you can feel your internal map.. And there are many practices to choose from to find the ones that help.
